Today we honour Saint Oswald of Worcester (c. 925–992), a key leader in the 10th-century revival of English monasticism. Born into a noble Danish family, Oswald became a monk and later served as Bishop of Worcester and Archbishop of York. Alongside Saint Dunstan and Saint Æthelwold, he helped restore discipline, prayer, and Benedictine life in England after years of decline. He founded monasteries, promoted education, and strengthened liturgical life. Known for his humility and pastoral care, he remained close to the poor even as a powerful church leader.
