It never produces the digital artifact (under water sound) in the audio that is common with other DNR algorithms, including other Yaesu radios. This video is all about reducing QRN by taking advantage of what I believe to be the best DNR of just about any radio on the market today. Update: The August 1, 2023 firmware update for the FTdx101D and FTdx101MP improved the DNR such that it competes with the DNR in the FTdx5000MP. Clarification: IPO1 does provide a slight amount of amplification, but it prioritizes the signal-to-noise ratio. Think of IPO1 as providing just enough gain to compensate for the insertion loss of the roofing filter. IPO2 is a complete bypass of any amplifier. I recommend IPO1 or IPO2 before using attenuation.
