This video presents the bells d♭1 -e♭1 -f1 -a♭1 -h♭1-d♭2 [re♭3 -mi♭3 -fa3 - la♭3 -si♭3 -so♭4] of St. Martin church in Sinzheim, southwest Germany. A pre-war bell from Villingen is complemented by five early post-war bells from Stuttgart. ➥ Only the smallest bell [6] of the pre-war bells and thus the original equipment of St Martin church from 1900 survived the two world wars. Like the rest of the bells, it was cast at the Grüninger bell foundry in Villingen. All other bells were lost in both world wars. But shortly after the war, a fortunate circumstance in Sinzheim provided the funds for new bells. Due to unclear framework conditions, the foundry Kurtz in Stuttgart was contacted instead of the Grüninger foundry. The five new instruments were cast and installed as early as 1949. The sound of the bells in Sinzheim was not quite as perfect as that of Kurtz in later years, but they were astonishingly richly decorated. In the enormous tower hall, the bells seem almost small despite the huge belfry. The external impression is similar. The enormous belfry results in a very dense sound impression, with a single bell standing out from time to time.
