The PAR Valve from Production Tool Solution has been a proven product for high sand producing wells. With over 6,000 well installations the team has learned a lot about short-term and long-term performance. Production Tool Solution builds PAR valves for PCP and ESP applications. Though they are different in design the functions are similar. Once the upward flow stops and solids want to fall out of suspension and stack out on top of the pump the PAR (Pressure Activated Relief Valve) will automatically shift to it's open position allowing the solids to harmlessly fall out through the relief ports allowing the particles to return to the casing annulus rather than stack up on top of the pump. Earlier in our field history the ESP PAR Valve utilized a flapper relief valve that worked well for many installations around the world, however in certain cases, depending on flow rates and particle size there could be issues that would impact the flapper mechanism. Addressing this issue the team went back to the design table and looked at a redesign to assist with these problematic applications. While searching for a better fit for all ranges of flow rates and sand concentrations, the search lead back to the PTS PCP PAR Valve. This unique dart shape valve never had issues associated with particle build up or washouts for the simple reason their is no hinge. The dart shape actuator free floats as a piston in the valve allow free even flow around the entire mechanism. This "new" old design borrowed from the PCP PAR Valve has worked fantastic and proving to be as reliable in the ESP PAR Valve and in all the thousands of PCP installations installed for over a decade. This video describes the evolution of the upgrade in actuator design for the ESP PAR Valve and describes in detail how it works and the success the new design is delivering.
