Sleepless Night to Forest Peace | Solo Hiking in Vanoise National Park - HEXATREK - DAY 16 After a sleepless night, shaken awake again and again by strong winds tugging at my tent, I start walking with a bit of hesitation. A few times during the night I honestly wondered if the tent would hold. Today, I tell myself, I won’t go too far. But it doesn’t take long for the bad night to fade. The landscape does its quiet work. Vanoise National Park is stunning, and the low-hanging clouds only make it more dramatic — mountains appearing and disappearing like slow thoughts. I walk calmly toward the Col de la Vanoise and stop for a coffee at the refuge. From there, the trail descends toward Pralognan. Along the way I pass the famous Lac des Vaches — a shallow lake crossed by a stone path. Touristic, yes, but still beautiful. I sit down for lunch and wait patiently for the right moment to take a photo. Eventually, it comes. In the afternoon I continue descending and arrive in Pralognan around 3 p.m. First stop: the supermarket. I buy a lot of food. Then comes the next challenge — finding a place to sleep. The campsite in the village is closed due to a melting glacier. So I head into the forest instead. Not long after, I find a beautiful spot near a small river. Nearby stands a wooden cabin with people around. I ask if I can charge my power bank. They say yes. They also offer water, a shower, and even dinner. Incredibly kind. I politely decline most of it, but I feel deeply welcome in this forest. I message Robin, knowing he’s heading back to Germany soon. Apparently he didn’t see my message — because at some point, he simply walks by. Of course, he’s carrying a beer. So am I. We sit, drink, and talk about the past weeks. The trail has a way of doing this — bringing people back together when you least expect it. That night, the forest is completely still. After wind and worry, I finally sleep — deeply, peacefully.
