Now when it comes to the world of Dragon Ball, there are lots of facts, figures, lore and information to parse through. This is a very long-running show and there has been no major retcon or removal of narrative to have occurred during its run since 1986. As a result, it has brought about many different and interesting facts and ideas...but then again, there is a lot of misinformation or misrememberings to have come about. What muddied the waters, as it were, were the early days of the English dub. Back in the day, producers and dubbers were less inclined to keep to the original story; instead choosing to adapt scripts to make it more palatable to Western audiences or to simply remove anything odd or unusual or...perhaps not suitable for their target demographics. Curse you, focus groups! So as a result of all of this, things got changed but became so engrained with early fans, they somehow became...part of the fabric of the show. Huh. It seems that the phantom of playground rumors and well-established facts is still rising over the passage of time. Things that may not have been true or in keeping with the original vision of Toriyama are being sustained; that kind of discourse and stuff that gets repeated isn't really factual or connected to ANY official source...and yet it remains in circulation because we grew up with it. Now before you say that we are very much lauding it over anybody, we will be honest. It's not like we aren't guilty of this; some of these tropes are ones that we have either thought previously or continue to work with for the sake of a good story; sometimes we discover that a thing we believed in has been... well, a myth, a dubbism or a rumor...but we do hold our hand up and acknowledge our snafu. And despite of years of heroic crusades from people like AnimeAjay or Geekdom, those myths and rumors still float around...or in some cases get doubled down and entrenched...so we decided to add our own brick to this wall against misinformation, but also take a piece of a humble pie right now, as most of the things of the list were the things we ourselves believed in...then we discovered the internet can be our friend as well as our nemesis...oh it makes me hark back to the days when websites were mostly text-based and picture of Dragon Ball were tiny and pixelated beyond belief. Simpler times. -------------------------------------- For more content, check out these playlists: Dragon Ball Discussions • The Dragonball Discussions - MasakoX Dragon Ball Super REVIEWS • Dragonball Super Videos/Reviews The Best of MasakoX • The Best of MasakoX Connect with me: Twitter - /MasakoX Instagram - /realmasako_x Twitch - /masakox_tfs Intro theme by Infinity Tone - / infinitytone
