MALIBU, CA — Sunday, September 28, 2025 — Santa Monica Closeup rode a Metro Bus on Line 134 from the Santa Monica Pier to the Malibu Pier, documenting the latest recovery efforts along the Pacific Coast Highway following the devastating Palisades Fire. The highway, now reopened to the public, serves as a vital operations corridor for rebuilding fire-damaged areas. From the elevated bus windows, passengers observed both the lingering scars of destruction and visible signs of reconstruction. LA Metro has fully resumed service on Line 134, reconnecting Malibu and Santa Monica after the route was shut down in the wake of the fire. The restored service, first reintroduced on a limited basis in late February, now provides a critical transportation link for residents, workers, and commuters navigating the ongoing recovery process. The Palisades Fire, which ignited on January 7, scorched more than 23,000 acres, destroyed over 12,000 structures, and displaced an estimated 150,000 residents across Pacific Palisades, Malibu, and the San Fernando Valley. Driven by strong Santa Ana winds and extreme drought conditions, the blaze overwhelmed emergency response efforts, causing five fatalities and numerous injuries. As crews continue debris removal, infrastructure repairs, and hillside stabilization, Metro’s restored service marks a tangible step toward reconnecting affected communities and supporting long-term recovery along the coast. #PalisadesFire #Malibu #SantaMonica #LAMetro #DisasterRecovery #PublicTransit 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝘃𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗼 𝗶𝘀 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗱 𝘀𝗼𝗹𝗲𝗹𝘆 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝘂𝘀𝗲.
