The cathedral of Vigevano (Italy) was built in 1532 at the behest of the Duke of Milan, after the pope had wanted to create the city as a new bishopric, as it was well known for its catholicity. The 12th-century tower was arranged and used as a belfry in the 14th century before being rebuilt in 1450; the last major renovation was in 1818 when it was raised, doubling its height with the construction of the current belfry, then topped with rich battlements. The bell tower houses five bells dating back to 1818, which ring in B major. A sixth bell dedicated to the Virgin Mary was added in 1899, used to summon the canons of the chapter to pray in choir. B - c' sharp - d' sharp - e' - f' sharp e'' The bells ring in the afternoon, accompanying the people on their way to the church from the Ducal Square on her feast day. The first two chimes are played to summon the canons for vespers; the third chime indicates the solemnity of the moment. The consecration of the church is celebrated on the day the bishop blessed the altar. The first medieval church was rebuilt in the 14th century and then demolished again to make room for the new church, the present one. The building retains some original building elements. The church was consecrated by the Bishop of Vigevano on 10 March 1612, which is why on this day, 10 March 2024, all the bells are rung in celebration. The church was asymmetrical to the square, so the bishop made a new façade to make the church the centre of the city. The Treasury Museum houses an exceptional 16th-century vestment embroidered in pure gold, used during Napoleon Bonaparte's coronation in Milan Cathedral. #bell #church #catholic #culture #italy #bells #cathedral #landscape #view #catholicchurch #friends #cinematic
