This lift is not connected to the mains. This means that when there is not much wind you have to wait for the batteries to charge before the lift will operate. The entire system is controlled by a Siemens PLC. Also, the lift uses power for both the up and down journey, as even though the motor is controlled through variable frequency kinetic energy can not be regenerated on the way down. This is because it is a climbing lift and the motor is very highly geared so that the motor can move the lift but the weight of the lift can't move the motor.
