Join Layton Hills Baptist Church this #Sunday morning for a #worship thru music, prayer, and the hearing of God's Word. Our worship team leads our musical worship thru "Sing To The King", "Blessed Be Your Name", "King Of Kings", "Holy Is The Lord", "Spirit Of The Living God" and closes with "Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus". This morning, Pastor John Jemar begins a study from the gospel of John chapter 12. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/... John 12 is a shift from signs to sacrifice; John 12:1-8 is about Jesus deserving costly devotion because He is the King who gives life through His death. Three main thoughts for today: First, Martha: The Model of Faithful Service (John 12:1–2a Therefore, six days before the Passover, Jesus came to Bethany where Lazarus was, whom Jesus had raised from the dead. So they made Him a dinner there, and Martha was serving…) 3 Ways Martha Is a Good Example: She serves Jesus out of love (v.2) True service flows from a relationship, not obligation (Galatians 5:13) She is consistent: We’ve seen her serving before (Luke 10:40). Her gift is hospitality & She honors Jesus with her hands: A picture of Romans 12:1, using our bodies as a living sacrifice When was the last time I served Jesus simply out of love for Him, not because I had to or felt guilted into it? How can I offer my daily tasks as a living sacrifice? Compare Martha’s service here in John 12 with Luke 10:38–42: How has she grown? How does Romans 12:1 challenge us to serve God with our bodies as an act of worship? How does Galatians 5:13 teach the right motive for Christian service? Second, Lazarus: The Model of Quiet Witness (John 12:2b "...and Lazarus was one of those reclining at the table with Him.") 3 Ways Lazarus Is a Good Example: He simply is: His presence alone testifies to Jesus’ power (John 12:9) He rests with Christ: Sitting at the table represents fellowship and peace He draws others to Jesus: Many came “not only for Jesus' sake, but that they might see Lazarus” (John 12:9) Does my life quietly show that Jesus has changed me? If someone looked at my peace and presence, would they be drawn to Jesus without me saying a word? In John 12:9–11, how did Lazarus’ mere presence lead people to believe in Jesus? Compare this to Matthew 5:16. How does the Bible describe “witness” not only as proclamation but also as presence? How can peace with Christ (Romans 5:1) serve as a powerful testimony? Third, Mary: The Model of Costly Worship (John 12:3 "Mary then took a pound of very expensive perfume of pure nard and anointed the feet of Jesus and wiped His feet with her hair; and the house was filled with the fragrance of the perfume.") 3 Ways Mary Is a Good Example: She gives sacrificially: Worship costs something (2 Samuel 24:24) She loves without shame: Her devotion breaks cultural norms She fills the house with worship: Her act affects everyone present What’s one thing I’ve been holding back from Jesus such as time, treasure, attention, affection that I need to pour out for Him with abandon, even if others don’t understand? Look at Mary’s act in light of 2 Samuel 24:24, where David insists on giving God an offering that costs him. Why is costly worship so significant? How does Hebrews 13:15–16 connect sacrificial praise with pleasing God?
