The Yarra River - Reflections of Melbourne

Cruising on the Yarra River flowing through the centre of the city of Melbourne offers a unique opportunity to view the magnificent contemporary architecture skilfully juxtaposed with the old buildings of earlier times. Travelling West towards the docklands you see vast expanses of glass reflecting the images of the neighbouring tower blocks creating a new vista at every turn. The Eureka Tower on the Southbank opened in 2006 and was at the time the world's tallest residential building measuring 297.3m (975ft) 91 storeys. It has 556 apartments serviced by 13 lifts. The Skyjack on floor 88 offers 360º views of the city and is highly recommended, even if you don't like heights! Travelling to the East you see a more rural aspect including the Royal Botanical Gardens and the great floodlights of the MCG on the opposite bank. The Rod Laver Arena, formerly Melbourne Park Center is also situated on the north bank at Flinders Park.
