Softball Drills for Infielders - Moving Around the Horn

This is a great warm up drill to get the arms warmed up. Little bit of running, skill development and communication all in one drill. * Setup: Have at least a couple players on each base, even home plate. The base they are on doesn’t have to be their actual position. They will be moving from bag to bag in this drill, so it doesn’t matter which base they start on. * How to Run Drill: Step 1: Start with just throwing the ball around the horn, to let them get the feeling of throwing it to each base and receiving the ball. * Step 2: After they have thrown the ball around the horn at least 5 times. Then tell them to follow the ball. * Step 3: I usually tell them to follow the ball when the ball is at home plate, then the drill starts. When they throw the ball to 1st base, the should start jogging to 1st base. The 1st baseman receives the ball and throws a grounder back to that player who just threw the ball to them from home, after throwing the grounder, they should start jogging to 2nd base. The player going to 1st base fields that ground ball, then throws to the next base which is 2nd base. 2nd baseman receives the throws and then throws a grounder to the player jogging from 1st base, then starts jogging to 3rd base. That player who fields the ground ball, now throws the ball to the next base, which is 3rd base. 3rd baseman receives the ground ball and throws a grounder to the player jogging from 2nd base and then starts jogging to home. Player jogging to 3rd base, fields that ground ball and then throws to the next base which is home. Player at home receives the ball and then throws a grounder to the player jogging from 3rd base.
