Softball Drills for Infielders - Home Then First Drill

Home then First Drill: This is a great drill to work on developing your infielders skills on making accurate throws to home and then immediately making a throw to first on the run. * Setup of Drill: Setup an entire infield with a catcher. Coach will hit ground balls to each position. * Step 1: This drill is a different version of the First then home drill, where the coach hits the ball to the infielder, who then throws to first, the immediately, the coaches hits another ball to the same player, who then throws to home. * In this drill, the coach will start by hitting a ground ball to the 3rd basemen, who fields the ball and then throws home. The coach immediately hits a another ground ball which will now be a slow roller to the same player, who has to charge the ball, and make the throw on the run to first base. (Player will need to learn how to throw on the run, using the same foot when throwing, and throwing side arm). * Step 2: Coach will do the same sequence to every player in their position. Example: 3rd base, then Short Stop, then 2nd base and last, your 1st baseman.
