I was a teenager when this song was released and I played the album on my turntable until it literally became grey. This song just can’t be missed on my YouTube Channel. Since the release of the album Machine Head I’ve been a great fan of Roger Glover. He plays with punch; groove and melody. I love the way he enters the song with staccato (short) played root notes. In the Verse the bass is more ‘freely’ played with syncopated notes (bar 13); very nice slides (bar 15) and great passing notes (bar 19). In Verse 2 Roger plays more in the groove as in the Chorus with a lot of eight notes and for instance in bar 45 a nice melodic line and a great lick in bar 49. And there’s this really terrific walking bass line during the solo!! Roger ends this song as he started it: playing rootnotes in a steady beat (in this case with a lot of octave notes).
