Sustainable Solutions: Innovating Asphalt with Waste-to-Energy Systems

In response to the growing demand for sustainable infrastructure, we have developed a transformative approach to asphalt production—repurposing waste materials, that would otherwise be landfilled, as a clean energy source. Through the deployment of Harvest Green’s BioPCP™ (Biomass Precisely Controlled Pyrolysis) system, we’ve successfully displaced fossil fuel use in one of our hot-mix asphalt operations, aligning with circular economy principles and nation wide emissions reduction goals. During this project, this system has resulted in a 47.3% reduction in cradle-to-gate emissions, saving 25.4 kg CO₂e per tonne of asphalt, and achieving a remarkable 124% reduction in plant operation emissions. Over the course of a year, the system has proven capable of avoiding over 1,000 tonnes of CO₂ emissions.
