Personnel: Chris Tyle, cornet, co-Leader; Hal Smith, drums, co-Leader; Bob Mielke, trombone; George Probert, soprano sax; Steve Pistorius, piano; Amy Sharpe, banjo; Bill Carroll, tuba; The connection between a superb performance by one of the best latter day traditional jazz bands and the 1951 recording of this song by Bob Scobey's Frisco Band are clear. George Probert plays on both recordings (39 years apart!) and the Frisco Syncopators pay tribute to Bob Scobey's excellent arrangement in their superb recording. Bob Mielke also recorded with the Bob Scobey band in 1952. In short this is a fabulous track from one of the Frisco Syncopators excellent CDs (and tape). The video includes details of the recently published biography and vocal discography of the great Clancy Hayes (available through Amazon). A further connection is that co-author Hal Smith visited Earthquake McGoon's several times to see the Turk Murphy Jazz Band and Clancy who of course played intermission. Hal played at the second Clancy Hayes fundraiser at Earthquake McGoon's on Sunday 13th June 1971. Included in the video are two recent CDs by Hal Smith lead bands - the New Orleans Night Owls and Hal Smith's Jazzologists - both available through Bandcamp as are CDs by Steve Pistorius who delivers the vocal on this track and plays wonderful piano. How lucky we are. Thanks to all subscribers, Enjoy. Peace to all.
