Pastor Stefan Ras will be preaching from the book of James, Chapter 1, Verses 1 to 15. The title of the message is “Gods purpose in trials”. We all experience trials in our lives and they take many forms. Some of them are small, some are life-changing, some even end in death. How do we deal with these trials in our lives and in the lives of those whom we love? 1) Perspective – Christ learnt obedience through suffering and in the same way we need to learn through suffering. Our trials will never be even close to as burdensome and heavy as His were, but they feel like that to us. 2) Purpose – Our trials bring forth patience in us. Gods timing is always perfect and our trials will last as long as they need to so as to ensure that we learn the lesson from them that God needs us to learn. We need to learn to be patient and wait for Him to show us the way and not presume to know better than He what is needful to be done. The Lord want to make us whole through trials – When we are patient in our trials God has the time to do the work that needs to be done and we grow to be closer to our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, then we were before the trial began. Trials give us wisdom - He will lavishly give you wisdom when you come to Him in your trial and ask. He will use His Word to show you truths you never knew were there. God wants to increase your faith – When we ask, He has the opportunity to answer or to give, and so the more we ask, the more He can answer or give. In the same way God uses our trials to increase our faith, as we see how He delivers us from trial after trial, building our faith in Him and our reliance on Him. He wants to teach us contentment – As we learn that every trial is Gods way of teaching us new truths, so we learn to be content in our trials, patiently waiting for His truth to become part of us. No matter whether it be in a place of peace and quiet, whether it be in the midst of a storm, whether it be in the midst of a trial or when we are on the hilltop praising Him, we will be content because we are in His will. 3) The prize – Our prize is a crown of life, making everything that we experience here on earth worthwhile, because Gods gifts and prizes are much, much more than we could ever imagine. Don’t let trials get you down, trust in the Lord and He will give you rest.
