Playthrough of Penny's Challenge for 1/26/26: The Third Sanctuary Level starts at 0:17 Note: I avoid using Plant Food and try to use unique strategies. There is a gimmick here in that the level's flags are hidden, and enemies that pop up during the flag are often powered up with what I assume are the two buffs zombies get from Vendor Zombie cotton candy (health and speed). There are also a variety of specialist zombies including Wizards, Arcane Shephards, Music Dolls, Berserkers, Magicians, and those darn Torchlight Zombies that seem to be a favorite for these challenges. Ghost will also attack here. First attempt had Cold Snapdragon and Acid Lemon. They can't hang with all the Wizards/Arcanes at the end, the Berserkers end up running through all that sheep. Second attempt added Puffball and Witch Hazel; just not enough for all the action before the final wave. The third time was the charm with Cattail and Iceweed. Witch Hazel is a boss for immediately snuffing out any Wizard/Arcane once her spell is ready. They do not prioritize Dark Summoners though, which is actually a plus sorta as they aren't that much of a threat. They also pick off all those high health tanks like Berserker, Music Doll, Pianist, and even Jurassic Gargs take a beating. As you can see, they can also get rid of those early Weasel Hoarders without them causing trouble. Say this also for Puff-shroom, who was basically the ninth seed thanks to Witch Hazel; the guy helps. I saw him cleaning up imps and getting in the way of chilled zombies. Every little bit helps. I was hoping for Berserkers to trip over them more, but that's ok. Cattail is the main attacker and as often the case, that range means a good controlled flow of zombies. They are able to usually pick off Ghosts before they get too far, clean up critters and imp spam, and will also pick off thrown imps and teleported zombies quickly. They're just strong in general too, even the buffed zombies don't last long especially when backed with Iceweed and Frozen Pear. Iceweed is great not just for nullifying Torchlighters and weakening zombie DPS, but also just cleaning out small fries so the others can get to the real threats. Music Dolls cannot effect them either. It's nice too when they get the occasional stray Pianist that gets teleported by a Magician. It's also nice to slip one underfoot of enemies trapped by Gumnut. New plant Frozen Pear is a great addition; very useful but not too OP. She works well with even Iceweed to keep zombies extra chilled and stunlocked for Cattail and Witch Hazel to dispose off. They do a lot of damage working together themselves, just look at those Jurassic Gargs flop over. That high HP of theirs also means I'm less concerned when they get spooked by Ghosts as opposed to other plants. Gumnut for trapping threats, especially gargs (the go-to for them when you're not using PF). Teleportato Mine great as usual, if she doesn't get the zombies I want, she'll at least clear foes out of their way so they become sitting ducks for Witch Hazel and Cattail. Squash, what can we say, he's the G. He's really great for that conga line of Pianists. The big threats for this deck are of course Berserkers, but fortunately there's not all that many of them. Magicians are also a headache as Witch Hazel will not target them and they can slip some rough customers into the defenses; look at that one Magician sneak a Berserker into my forces. The final wave is almost always a hectic affair, but this was nuts. Lots of chaos and causalities and then that weird dead space afterwards where all the zombies were dead and nothing was happening. Teleportato Mine and I had our eyes quite peeled for anything. I was expecting a boss character or something like Zombert or Multimplicity (oh man) to suddenly storm in, but nothing. Phew.
