Welcome back to MaquÉden with vlog 318. We’re tackling a few more jobs around the house. Erwin has started working on the landing. Sounds small, but we’ve had all the materials for the balustrade lying around for two years now. They were mainly serving as decorative storage. Until now. This week, we’re really getting down to business. It’s going to work out, we think. We hope. Maybe. Meanwhile, Mo is busy in the guest apartment, sticking on faux-stone panels. And “sticking” sounds cozy enough, but try cutting them neatly around wooden beams. That requires a template. And then there’s also a power outlet that has to fit right through it. There is a clever trick for that… the only question is: will that trick actually work? Because mistakes are not an option. There’s no extra material. And buying more? Haha, no. These panels were bought four years ago. Good luck with that. As if that wasn’t exciting enough, the wildlife camera behind the farmhouse spots a deer, really close by. Absolutely beautiful. And Mo often walks around there too, with all the animals and with horse Diego. Diego is doing better and better. He keeps discovering new pieces of pasture and has to get used to new rhythms and routines. But it’s lovely to see how calmly the herd interacts with each other. We do hope the rain stops soon for everyone’s sake, because it’s one big mud bath out there. So bad that Mo even finds a little burrow from a mouse or something, completely flooded, with an actual stream running through it. Climate drama, but on a mouse-sized scale. The only upside to all that mud: you get to see beautiful deer tracks. Wet, dirty, chaotic — but also kind of beautiful.
