Hello everyone, great to see you again! We’re kicking things off this week with the animals. Big news: Zozo can now wait a whole minute before eating, until I say it’s okay. Even if I’m not in the same room! Now that’s self-control, I certainly couldn’t do it if there were cake on the table. I’m proud of him. At the badger sett, where Pelle and I previously shoveled away a whole cubic meter of sand, our trail camera caught the entire badger family on film. They happily dig the sand right back onto the path, go on little outings together, and one enthusiastic female is seen rolling nest material inside, backwards, no less! One badger sniffs curiously at the camera… apparently something smelled interesting (I suspect Erwin’s peanut butter fingers). A roe deer doe does the exact same thing, apparently cameras are the new hangout spot for gossiping woodland creatures. And of course Poupette couldn’t be left out: she sniffed the drone camera as Erwin landed it. Everything needs to be approved by the home inspection team, after all. This week, Erwin is building a cuckoo clock, while Mo is having a great time creating a miniature baking kitchen. We love looking at architecture, and in the villages around Pessan we admire many beautiful buildings, and yes, half-timbered houses are still our favorite. We even drove over a very narrow Roman bridge, with little bays where donkey carts used to pass each other. These days, only a confident Kangoo can squeeze across! Back home, the sky rewards us with a sunset trimmed in gold, forget silver linings, we’re going for gold! We continue with the shutter project, but first we have to lift aside an ancient grapevine. And as if working in 35°C sunshine weren’t challenging enough, we discover that we can’t use the parasol for shade, because there’s a wasp nest inside it. Erwin puts on his beekeeper suit and opens the parasol carefully. Luckily, the next day the wasps have moved out, though we might receive an angry letter from them any day now. We finish two more sets of shutters, another satisfying step forward. We also paint one side of the swimming pool green, so it no longer screams like a glaring white dot in the landscape. The horses are doing well, although Quarbonne is already getting a white face, perhaps he’s just getting old? Mo takes the pressure washer to the stable floor, where a thin layer of clay and manure tends to form and hold water. We don’t want the horses standing in the wet, so: spray away! Thanks to the wonderful temperatures, we’re still eating outside, both lunch and dinner, with fresh grapes from our own vines. No hardship there! But… it looks like this was the last beautiful weekend. Autumn is on its way, bringing rain, wind, and probably a bit of thunder too. Thanks for watching, and see you next time! Bonjour à tous, ravie de vous retrouver ! On commence la semaine avec les animaux. Zozo peut maintenant attendre une minute entière avant de manger, même si je ne suis pas là. Une vraie leçon de self-control, moi, je n’y arriverais pas s’il y avait du gâteau. Au terrier des blaireaux, où Pelle et moi avions retiré du sable, la caméra a filmé toute la famille : ils creusent, jouent, et une femelle rentre du matériel de nid à reculons. Un blaireau et une chevrette reniflent la caméra, les ragots du jour, version forêt. Et Poupette, bien sûr, inspecte la caméra du drone quand Erwin atterrit. Tout doit être approuvé par le comité félin. Cette semaine, Erwin fabrique une pendule à coucou et Mo une mini-cuisine. Dans les villages autour de Pessan, on admire encore les maisons à colombages, toujours nos préférées. On traverse un vieux pont romain si étroit qu’il faut une Kangoo très courageuse pour passer. Le soir, le ciel nous offre un coucher de soleil doré, pas d’argenté pour nous. On poursuit le projet des volets : il faut d’abord déplacer une vieille vigne, puis affronter 35 °C sous le soleil. Pas d’ombre possible : un nid de guêpes s’est logé dans le parasol. Erwin met sa combinaison d’apiculteur, ouvre prudemment, et le lendemain les guêpes ont déménagé. Ouf ! Deux nouvelles paires de volets terminées ! Et on peint un côté de la piscine en vert pour qu’elle se fonde mieux dans le paysage. Les chevaux vont bien, même si Quarbonne blanchit déjà un peu — look d’hiver ou signe de sagesse ? Mo nettoie la dalle de l’écurie au jet haute pression : un mélange d’argile et de crottin garde l’humidité, il faut donc entretenir souvent. Avec ce temps magnifique, on mange encore dehors, midi et soir, sous la vigne et avec nos raisins maison. Mais on sent que c’était le dernier week-end d’été : l’automne arrive, avec pluie, vent et peut-être un peu d’orage.
