Downward Facing Dog Pose, Adho Mukha Svanasana, is a very popular pose in #Yoga and is part of the common Sun Salutation, Surya Namaskara practice. Class suggestions at https.//Birgittekristen.com/. It is a great pose to stretch the back of the legs and open the shoulders. Over time, as the pose becomes easier and can be held for a longer period of time, it can have a very #calming effect on the nervous system....#AdhoMukhaSvanasana is considered an #inversion since the head is below the heart. Most students come to yoga with tight #hamstrings and therefore do not initially feel the calming effects. The simple suggestion to bend the knees to find length in the spine, will almost immediately create more ease in the pose as the student can more easily elongate the spine and shift weight into the legs. Students who are in a more bendy body, will typically collapse and in fact put unnecessary stress on the shoulder joints. In #DownwardFacingDog Pose we aim for a neutral spine.
