Before I applied to the Thoroughbred Makeover, I had a lot of questions about what the process would be like. This is my attempt to summarize my findings and takeaways competing in dressage for my first Thoroughbred Makeover at the Kentucky Horse Park as an adult amateur. The Thoroughbred Makeover is the largest Thoroughbred retraining competition in the world for recently-retired ex-racehorses. The 2021 Makeover was open to Jockey Club-registered Thoroughbreds who marked a workout or race after July 1, 2019 and had not had more than 15 retraining rides prior to December 1, 2020.
