Custom Built Straight Line Engine

Straight Line Engine is a form of machine for creating Guilloché and similar patterns - a companion to Rose Engine. This design is somehow departing form the convention by incorporating spiral cams rather than regular racks. Making those spiral cams is easy and quick and the change of the phase by rotation more accurate and backlash fee. Changing the cam takes a little longer than shifting the racks, but it is still under 2 minutes. Regular, flat racks can be installed as well if no change of phase is needed. Here the pattern will be simply transferred to the cutting tool and it can be shifted and rotated as needed by the slide of the compound and the rotary chuck mount.
