I stayed at Konashi no Yu Sasaya in Shirahone Onsen, Nagano Prefecture. The milky white spring water of Shirahone Onsen is turned into artistic baths in the bathhouses of each inn, but Sasaya's bath is particularly artistic and I have wanted to stay at this inn for many years. This time, my wish finally came true and I was able to visit. The private hot spring "Konashi no Yu" and the indoor bath are both works of art covered in white crystals. The crystals of hot spring mineral deposits have grown over decades from the bathtub where the spring water overflows. The contrast with the bluish water of Shirahone Onsen is a work of art that can only be enjoyed here, even if seen nationwide. The building exudes a sense of history and the guest rooms of Zaboan, an old house built in the Edo period, were relocated. The rooms are designed in the sukiya style, with light streaming in through the large windows, adding a touch of elegance to a comfortable stay. During my stay, I took many baths in the hot springs and rested in my room, and although they are not shown in the video, I enjoyed a total of five baths. The sophisticated meals are also a highlight of this hotel. You can enjoy a luxurious menu that makes use of the bounty of Nagano prefecture. After the appetizer, hot dishes are brought out one by one, and then shabu-shabu, yudofu, and porridge cooked in the hot spring water are with hot spring flavor. This is a wonderful inn that is full of attention to detail in the building, hot springs, and food. There are now more inns that I want to visit again in different seasons. I'm looking forward to seeing what these bathtubs will be like in a few decades.
