DXing AM 1690 kHz — switching between a 40-meter dipole at approximately 45 feet and a ground-mounted vertical with radials. The difference in reception between the two antennas is pronounced, and becomes even more evident toward the end of the video. The wire antenna consistently favored the rock and roll station, which was later positively identified as WPTX. When switching to the vertical antenna, the rock station was largely suppressed and a talk station became dominant. The talk station was not identified at the time of this recording, but may be originating from Chicago, which would be consistent with the wire antenna exhibiting a deep null in that direction. This recording demonstrates how antenna pattern and directionality alone can determine which station is received on the same AM frequency. The contrasting reception is largely due to the directional pattern and nulls of the wire antenna at medium-wave frequencies, compared to the more omnidirectional response of the ground-mounted vertical. Arrival angle and azimuth play a significant role in which station dominates. I apologize for the lack of volume on my narration .. I'll do better in the future I think I said 2025 ,, its like writing a check in January .. I meant to say 2026 .. 1:31:2026
