Two Black Fives at the Citadel. 44932 on the Settle Carlisle Eden Express 45231 Sherwood Forester on The Lakelander Side by side at Carlisle 1 July 2023 I took the opportunity to be a Steward on the Settle Carlisle Eden Express, run by West Coast Railways for the Settle Carlisle Development Company. This ran from Hellifield to Carlisle and return, picking up at Settle with a stop at Appleby - outwards to set down a few passengers and on the return to take on water. The Development Company, who operate the trolley service on service trains between Settle and Carlisle, took the opportunity to sell ice cream there too! 44932 hauled out train without diesel support - the recent fire risks being over for now - its been windy everywhere and often wet - that morning saw some heavy rain before departure time. At Carlisle we arrived just before Locomotive Services 'The Lakelander' train from Leicester. This was hauled by 45231 Sherwood Forester with 47614 bringing up the rear for hotel services. The Lakelander would return via the Cumbrian Coast. For a few minutes the Fives stood side by side - 44932 in A Road and 45231 in Platform 1, I was able to record 44932 arriving at Hellifield from Steamtown and passing through Giggleswick on its return ECS, as well as while at Carlisle. All recordings were taken on my smartphone. Apologies for wind noise - it was very windy everywhere.
