Madrid's Famous Plaza Mayor

This is a fun walk through the center of bustling Madrid, Spain to the famous Plaza Mayor. This grand central square is found in the heart of Hapsburg Madrid, the oldest part of the city. Plaza Mayor was erected on the former Plaza del Arrabal, where Madrid’s most popular market was held till the late 16th century. When King Philip II moved the Spanish court from Toledo to Madrid in 1561, he began to plan a remodeling of the square, although it wasn’t till his son and successor Philip III was in power, that the new square was built. Madrid is the capital and most populous city of Spain. It's the political, economic, and cultural center of the country. Oh and fun fact: my sister lives there! The city has a metropolitan area population of approximately 6.7 million.
