Not a lot of people have heard of Mars and in the UK for example, we know of it more for being a chocolate bar. What a huge shame. Mars is one of our favourite distilleries at Whisky Situation and have followed them for a while. They have the luxury of having two distilleries with very differing climates. Here we focus on Mars Tsunuki in the very south of Japan with an aging site on Yakushima Island where hyper-aging takes place. We stock a lot of Mars Tsunuki single casks so for something spectacular that you don't know yet, check them out! Some of their 5 year old releases taste like some of our 25 year olds due to the influence from the cask that the spirit can absorb in such a short time. Incredible stuff really. Tatsuro Kano and Momoko Kato take us around the distillery, blending room and warehouses and their bar and tell us about what it is like to work at Mars Tsunuki. The parent company of Mars is Hombo Shuzo. They are not new to distillation at all.
