I surf in Rockaway beach which is a beach break with the sand bars that are consistently shifting rom swell to swell. I think the most important part in surfing is reading the ocean like how the waves form and break etc. Once you get the hang of it, you will know where the best spot to catch the waves is with just 2 or 3 paddles. It will also help to understand the positioning as the water in the ocean is always moving due to wind, tide and currents.
