London Transport Docklands Light Railway-Island Gardens 1998

Something slightly different now, some shots of the DLR taken at Island Gardens and Mudchute when they were still above ground stations. Island Gardens was on a viaduct which originally was part of the London & Blackwall Railway. The lines around the London Docks closed in the 1960s as traffic fell away to the new container dock at Tilbury. When the DLR was extended to Lewisham in order for it to cross under the Thames the line was shut between Crossharbour and Island Gardens in order to drop the line into tunnel and build two new below ground stations to replace the above ground ones.
