Performer: Ani ensemble Lyrics: Mikael Nalbandian Earliest recording of this song: 1859 More popularly known by as Ազատն Աստված (Azatn Astvats | God who's always Free). This song was one of the older and more obscure songs of the Armenian National Movement, written by the famous poet Mikael Nalbandian. Surprisingly, there's actually two melodies of this song. This one being the 1928 version found in the "Chansons Arméniens Ձայնագրեալ Նոր Երգարան" by Hagop Uvezian. While an older, more cheery melody can be found in the 1919 (Songs of Armenia Հայրենի Երգեր) yet to be recorded in audio. This YouTube channel is anti-partisan.
