Nevruz was born in Rodosto and used to work in the tobacco industry as a farmer. He had four children in 1894 and would join the Armenian Revolutionary Federation. For a brief moment in time he was a merchant in Odessa but would later on join a joint group of Armenian and Macedonian Hayduks and would later plan an attack on Mustafa Bey's farm to capture the governor and use him for ransom to free various Armenian, Macedonian, and Bulgarian revolutionaries. However the attempt would fail and many would be arrested, Nevruz would manage to escape from prison. In 1902, Nevruz would go to the Caucasus on instruction of Kristapor Mikayelyan, the founder of the ARF, and participated in Operation "Potorik", which aimed for the extortion of money from wealthy Armenians to fund the Armenian Liberation struggle via intimidation. In 1903, the Shant battalion would be formed, and Nevruz would travel to Kars to join. When they went towards Sasun, they were joined by the "Kaytsak" Battalion led by Khan (Barsegh Tirakanyan). Nevruz's battalion would pass through Shadevan, Armutlu, Bashgyugh, and Turkhoja. Both groups would meet up in Teolpenkli on September 10 to determine which routes to take to get to Sasun. On September 17, Nevruz's group would pass through the Russo-Turkish border without incident along with Khan. Under the instruction of Nevruz, 19 men would prepare a place in the village of Yuzveran for the army to stay in, the rest of the men had to fall behind in Yuzverangiugh for a break before moving on. However Kurdish irregulars and Turkish soldiers blocked the way to Yuzvera and Nevruz had to change route towards Khnus. Eventually, a clash would break out between Nevruz's group and the Turks and Kurds in Turkhoja, Basen. Nevruz would be victorious and the enemy would leave behind plenty of ammunition and supplies, however they were unable to advance towards Sasun, so they went back towards Russia. Near the Russo Turkish border however, a large Turkish army stood in their way and a battle ensued. Onik Nevruz and many of his men would die fighting to the very end.
