Reading and Northern QAJT, QASD, NRFF, and More! Chasing R&N Freight in and Around Tamaqua, PA

On August 13th, 2024, I ventured to Tamaqua, PA, to spend one of my last days of summer break chasing the various trains on the Reading and Northern Railroad in and around the town. Ultimately, I was very successful as I caught five different trains! The day began in the morning with QAJT, the Tamaqua to Jim Thorpe job. On this day, their duties involved servicing the industry known as Reynolds (not seen in the video) and dumping ballast on new tracks around the recently constructed Nesquehoning Regional Railroad Station. Before departing Tamaqua, the QASD or Shenandoah Job coupled to the end of QAJT, and the two traversed to East Mahanoy Jct., where they split then split to allow the QAJT to travel on to Nesquehoning and the QASD to travel onto the M&S branch to complete their duties. Later in the day, I decided to set up at Jim Thorpe Jct., strategically set up to catch three different trains within about 15 minutes. This included the return of the 3pm LGSR train, followed by the NRFF meeting with the JTQA on its return to Tamaqua. Finally, when I returned to Tamaqua in the late afternoon, I was surprised with a fifth train for the day, this being a QAEX. This job was completing some yard maneuvers when I arrived and then ventured onto the Greenwood Branch to service Lehigh Anthracite. This catch was even more unique as one of the railroad's 40th Anniversary Units, #1983, was being utilized. Overall, this was a very fun and action-filled outing on the Reading and Northern.
