The Lake Spaulding area is forecasted to receive 4 to 8 inches of snow overnight, with snow showers and cold temperatures expected to continue throughout the week. Lake Spaulding, located in the Sierra Nevada mountains of Nevada and Placer County, California, just north of Interstate 80 near Donner Pass and Castle Peak. Soda Springs is a mountain resort area near Donner Summit in the Sierra Nevada mountains, located about 15 miles from Truckee in Nevada County. The region is currently experiencing severe snowstorm conditions. Authorities say the bodies of eight backcountry skiers have been found and one remains missing after an avalanche near Lake Tahoe in California. Search and rescue crews were dispatched to the Castle Peak area of the Sierra Nevada after a 911 call reporting an avalanche Tuesday morning. Six others were found alive. Heavy snow and the threat of additional avalanches slowed the rescue effort in the mountains near Castle Peak, northwest of Lake Tahoe. Authorities have told the families the mission has moved from rescue to recovery. They say the eight victims were found fairly close together, and that three of them were discovered by the skiers who survived. The avalanche is the deadliest in the U.S. since 1981, when 11 climbers were killed on Mount Rainier in Washington state. Each winter, 25 to 30 people die in avalanches in the U.S., according to the National Avalanche Center. It was the second deadly avalanche near California's Castle Peak this year, after a snowmobiler was buried by one in January. =========================================================== Clients are reminded to adhere to all listed restrictions and to check the terms of their licence agreements.
