Day 1: The Trek Begins! | Salkantay to Machu Picchu Trek - South America Vlog

In this video, we begin our trek to Humantay Lake and the Sky Camp in Soraypampa. The day started early with a 4 a.m. pickup from our place in Cusco. After about two hours, we stopped in Mollepata for a quick breakfast before continuing on to Challacancha — the starting point of our hike. Before we began walking, we met the muleteers and cooks who would be with us for the trek, then did a final check of our gear. From there, we hiked about three hours to Soraypampa. The trail follows an old Inca water channel, and we passed through some stunning scenery with glaciers and deep valleys. Once we arrived at Sky Camp, we settled into our igloo-style tents and had our first proper meal cooked by the team — it was seriously impressive considering we were up in the mountains. Later that afternoon, we did an extra hike up to Humantay Lake.
