This second video in the series about Haiste Consulting Engineers concerns the origins of the firm as John H Haiste and Partners, its founder's early employment as a civil engineer, his military service in Mesopotamia in World War I, and the experience of the firm in the years between the two world wars. During this period the firm was responsible for major docks and harbour works, in the UK - around the Humber estuary, Hartlepool and Fowey in Cornwall; and overseas in The Gambia, the Falkland Islands and France (a ship repair yard for the port of Lorient). The Nyali Pontoon Bridge in Mombasa, Kenya, was another project of significance. The firm went on to diversify into water and sewerage works infrastructure, developing several county regional water supply schemes and the sewerage system for Bridlington. After the Second World War John Haiste looked towards retirement and took on new partners. They went on to expand the firm in Britain's post-war reconstruction and development - to be the subject of the third video in this series.
