This video presents the Ethiopian Sport & Culture Festival in the UK (ESCFUK) which was held on 17 August 2025 at New River Leisure Centre, in the London Borough of Haringey. Football, Athletics, Music, Circus/Acrobats and other entertaining activities were performed. BACKGROUND INFORMATION ABOUT BRITISH ETHIOPIAN CITIZENS & REFUGEES IN THE UK According to wikipedia and the 2011 UK census there were 15494 Ethiopian born residents in the UK. Of these 15058 in England, 151 in Wales, 258 in Scotland, and 27 in Northern Ireland. It seems there is no a precise figure for the current (2025) Ethiopians residing in the United Kingdom. Differnt sources give differnt figures. Today the number of Ethiopian immigrants living in London & outside London are increasing from year to year because of the continuous Ethnic based Human Rights Violations and maladministration in the Country. According the Wikipedia's article there were 90,000 Ethiopians in 2015. It is obvious that the current population of of Ethiopian origin people in the UK is far more than 100,000. Again more than 80% of them are living in London. The population of Ethiopians in Birmingham, Manchester, Leeds and other big cities is also raising from Year to Year. In this 2025 Sport and Culture Festival we can see that Children and Young People are majorities. There were/are Community Organisations such as Ethiopian Community in Britain, Ethiopian Health Support Association, Ethiopian Community in the UK, and other Community Organisations in London and other big Towns. Ethiopians make traditional Food and Beverages. Teff Injera, Doro Wat, Kitifo and Teji are indigenous to Ethiopia. Traditional Coffee (Buna) Ceremony is also Chilling. Today, the unique Iskista (Dance), Food and beverage of Ethiopia increasingly become popular in the UK, US, Asia, Middle East, in many African countries and the rest of the World. During Emperor Haile Selassie’s era very few people were leaving Ethiopia to live abroad. Even Students, Officials and Visitors were returning back to Ethiopia before their visas were expired. The first Ethiopian mass immigration seeking asylum to the UK and other countries was in 1974 when Emperor Haile Selassie's government was overthrown by the Military Regime (Derg). Many of the forced & persecuted Citizens were political refugees who left behind everything they had. The second but the largest wave of Ethiopian immigration to the UK was in 1991, when the the rebel (separatist) TPLF in collaboration with anti Ethiopian elements seized power and committed gross Human Rights Violations against the Ethiopian People. The 2021/2022 war between the warlord TPLF and the Central Government has inflicted heavy damage against the innocent neighbouring People of Amhara, Afar and the ordinary people of Tigray. Amharas one of the largest Ethnic groups continued to be victimised by both the criminal Ethnic based TPLF & its incapable descendant, that calls itself prosperity party, led by Abiy Ahmed. Today huge number of young Ethiopians (most of them females) are leaving their Country Ethiopia to the Middle East (Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, etc) seeking basic job or better life. Ethnic Based thinking and the crimes against the Amharas and other innocent Ethnic groups in Oromo region by the extremists prognosticate the possible serious future Human suffering in the area. In addition to this the recent unjust war declared by the the so called Prosperity Party of PM Abiy Ahmed against the very Peace loving Amhara people & their guardian Fano in the pretext of peace keeping is outrageous. This unfair war declared against the majority Amharas who are the backbone of Ethiopia shall incapacitate the regime in the near future. The continuous political unrest may indicate that more and more Ethiopians will be forced to leave their homeland to seek Asylum or better lives abroad.
