Qualcomm’s PJ Jacobowitz kicked off Day 2 of Tech Talks at Snapdragon Summit 2022 with a bold declaration: “This is going to be a wild show.” The jam-packed showcase of the powerful mobile gaming features native to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 mobile platform with Snapdragon Elite Gaming gave an inside look at how Snapdragon is breaking new ground for gamers everywhere. From exciting announcements to stunning game demos you have to see to believe, this session explored the powerful tech coming to the next generation of gaming phones that promises to delight both casual and hardcore gamers alike. Snapdragon Elite Gaming includes a suite of features that help make Snapdragon devices “an elite gaming rig in your hands,” as Jacobwitz puts it. These premium technologies enable ultra-smooth gaming performance without sacrificing eye-catching and immersive visuals. With a massive boost from Snapdragon 8 Gen 2’s Adreno GPU, leading game studios will have more tools to deliver desktop-quality experiences on mobile gaming phones. PJ Jacobowitz gave attendees a look at some of the most exciting titles coming to Snapdragon from leading studios like Ubisoft. Thanks to the work of Snapdragon Studios, there are currently 30 games in development for Snapdragon devices built on Unreal Engine 5, some of which include support for the Metahumans framework. This feature-rich character creator brings photorealistic human characters to life with endless combinations of eye color, skin color, and hair color options. It unlocks a new level of customization and personalization in gaming, and it’s only available in Unreal Engine 5. Todd Lemoine of Snapdragon Studios also joined PJ Jacobowitz on stage to announce new Snapdragon Elite Gaming features that promise to accelerate the evolution of desktop games to mobile platforms: The Game Post Process Accelerator, which offers up to a 75% improvement in performance and accelerated ray tracing. Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 is the first mobile platform with dedicated hardware to accelerate real-time ray tracing. This previously desktop and console-exclusive feature provides a visual boost with realistic light, reflections, and illuminations for a more immersive experience. Todd Lemoine summarized the day's announcements by stating, “If you’re a gamer, you absolutely want to be playing on a Snapdragon device.” With Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 and Snapdragon Elite Gaming offering powerful hardware acceleration features like ray tracing to help bridge the gap between desktop and mobile games, it’s hard to disagree with him. As gamers shift their spending and attention from desktop platforms to gaming phones, Snapdragon will continue leading the mobile gaming revolution with features that put powerful technologies in the palm of your hand.
