The Fire Was Already Burning is a worship song inspired by the sacrificial system in Leviticus 4, 6, and 9, where God reveals a profound truth: the fire on the altar did not begin with man—it began with God. Before any sinner brought an offering… Before any priest shed the blood… Before any hand reached toward the altar… the fire was already burning. In Leviticus 9, the fire falls from the presence of the Lord and consumes the offering. In Leviticus 6, God commands that this fire must never go out. And in Leviticus 4, we see the sin offering—blood shed for the guilty, so that atonement might be made. All of it points forward. The altar… The blood… The priest… The fire… Every flame was preaching a sermon. Every sacrifice was whispering a name. Every drop of blood was pointing to the Lamb of God. Revelation 13:8 declares that Christ is “the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.” Before Adam fell, before sin entered Eden, before the first altar was built, the sacrifice was already in the heart of God. Grace did not begin at Calvary. Grace did not begin at Sinai. Grace was already burning in the eternal counsel of God. This song is a meditation on that truth: that before our failure, before our guilt, before our first cry for mercy— the fire was already burning. Unlike the earlier tabernacle-inspired songs in this series, this piece is presented in a broader worship setting—beginning in quiet reflection and gradually building into a fuller, more triumphant expression of praise.
