Blood at the Veil | Leviticus 4 | Maranatha Bible Study In Leviticus chapter 4, the Lord gives detailed instructions for the sin offering. At first glance, it may seem like an ancient ritual far removed from our lives today. But when we slow down and follow the movement of the blood in this chapter, we discover a powerful message that points directly to Jesus Christ. The priest does not simply offer the sacrifice and walk away. The blood is carried into the sanctuary. It is sprinkled seven times before the veil. It is applied to the horns of the altar of incense. And finally, it is poured out at the base of the altar outside. This movement of the blood tells a story. The veil stands as a reminder of separation—between a holy God and sinful man. Just as cherubim guarded the way back to the Tree of Life in Eden, the veil in the tabernacle reminds us that sin has closed the way. But the blood speaks. Seven times it is sprinkled before the veil—a number of divine completion—declaring that atonement must be perfect and complete. The horns of the altar receive the blood, showing that mercy and intercession are grounded in sacrifice. And in the end, all the blood is poured out at the base of the altar. Centuries later, at the cross, the true and better sacrifice was offered. And when Jesus had finished His work, blood and water flowed from His side. As Isaiah prophesied: “He poured out His soul unto death… and made intercession for the transgressors.” — Isaiah 53:12 Leviticus 4 is not just about an offering. It is about a Savior. In this verse-by-verse study, we trace the meaning of the sin offering and see how every detail ultimately points to Christ—the One who fulfilled what the sacrifices only foreshadowed.
