Five of England’s metro mayors and the mayor of London have called for the power to introduce a visitor levy (often known as a tourist tax) in their cities. Cities around the world including Barcelona and Amsterdam, and places in Scotland and Wales, already have the powers to introduce a levy. Join Centre for Cities and panellists from around the country to discuss the future of tourist taxes in UK cities. Discussion will cover the schemes already in use, why they were introduced and how they operate, and what they tell us about the future of fiscal devolution in the UK. Speakers: Bill Addy, Chief Executive, Liverpool BID Company Julie Ashworth, Chair, Edinburgh Visitor Levy Advisory Forum Professor Tony Travers, Associate Dean, LSE School of Public Policy Chair: Andrew Carter, Chief Executive, Centre for Cities
