This series would of course be called Final Fantasy. These games would take players on epic adventures that blended unique stories, compelling battle systems, intriguing characters, and expansive exploration. Many people nowadays think Square’s history begins with the Final Fantasy series, however the company had been around for nearly half a decade before the first game ever saw the light of day. It’s safe to say that the Square we know today, now named Square Enix, has found great success in the gaming industry and risen to become one of the largest video game publishers ever. This was not always the case though as the Japanese company’s earlier days were much more tumultuous before they finally found their golden goose, Final Fantasy. This is the story of a business that found success in the video game market, then nearly lost it, before an RPG no one had ever heard of would save them from bankruptcy. This is Square’s history before Final Fantasy.
