When snow conditions are good, you grab it. Friends and I anxiously wait throughout the winter for surface crust (not necessarily corn) and hard snow/ice to develop to free us from the confines of the Rodelbahn. We can slide almost anywhere. This year 2018/2019 was particularly good. Lots of snow and many cycles of warm/cold to set the snow surface. Here in the Big Hole Mts. of Idaho we could play amongst the sagebrush, bitterbrush and serviceberries on 18%-22% slopes as if they were slalom poles. We cruised sparkling snowfields and blasted the roads. It's ephemeral. The next day, the road ice melted and became unusable. But forests still have snow! Carpe diem definitely applies here.
