Featured is a chess miniature between Szymon Gumularz and Nihal Sarin from round 6 of the FIDE Grand Swiss 2025. The opening is a Queen's Gambit Accepted, where White plays with an isolated d-pawn and both players emphasize rapid development. On move 12, instead of bringing out his queen knight, Sarin decides to improve an already developed piece. Why the change? Had he developed the knight, he would have been lost! By keeping control over the critical d5-break, Sarin demonstrates a positional awareness, follows up with a series of precise moves, and concludes the game with an aesthetic combination destined to appear in future books on tactics. #FIDEGRANDSWISS #NihalSarin #QueensGambit Image of Nihal Sarin by Lennart Ootes lennartootes.com I'm a self-taught National Master in chess out of Pennsylvania, USA who was introduced to the game by my father in 1988 at the age of 8.
