Many of us tend to go to focused awareness of our breath and body for a couple of different reasons. One is we may want to move away from an uncomfortable experience or focus on it so we can release it. It could also be habit to focus the mind. Many people whom I work with find a benefit for expanded awareness. It calms/relaxes us and also we let go of our agenda with the experience. Also, what we hold chronically usually doesn't shift easily or quickly, in which case expanded awareness can be helpful to manage the challenging.
