34067 Tangmere Clatters To Edinburgh! The Great Britain XVII 29 April 2025

It's that time of year again when The Railway Touring Company runs charters up and down the country, The Great Britain XVII! Here we see Bulleid designed West Country Class Pacific Locomotive Number 34067 Tangmere on day 4 clattering through Northumberland north of Newcastle Upon Tyne bound for Edinburgh Waverley. The charter began at Grange Over Sands and took the Cumbrian coast to Carlisle. From west to east the tour traversed the Tyne Valley to Newcastle. After leaving Newcastle the tour stopped at Heaton Depot for refueling however as a consequence of some fault near Plessey Tangmere found herself trapped! Whatever the reason and cause as to why north and southbound trains had to take turns on the down line between Morpeth and Benton, it caused the Spam Can to run 34 mins late! I shan't lie, much panic ensued as I desperately wanted to capture the charter in the low afternoon sun. Thank the lord however, she pulled through and the sun stayed out!
