The International Theatre Institute Uganda Centre partnered with Yenze Theatre Conservatoire to bring you a physical theatre workshop by Zimbabwean artist Lloyd Nyikadzino, in preparation for world theatre day under the theme "ROUTES & ROOTS: Artistic Narratives of Migration." Lloyd Nyikadzino is a multi-award-winning theatre producer, practitioner, lecturer, and arts manager with extensive experience in creative entrepreneurship and international collaboration. He lectures in the Department of Creative Media and Communication at the University of Zimbabwe and serves as a member of the Executive Council of the International Theatre Institute. He is the Founding Executive Director of the Zimbabwe Theatre Academy and the Founder and Executive Director of the Mitambo International Theatre Festival, initiatives dedicated to nurturing emerging artists and strengthening global partnerships. Lloyd has held leadership and advisory roles with major cultural institutions, including the International Theatre Institute (ITI), and has served as a theatre adjudicator within international arts networks. A recipient of fellowships from institutions such as the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, Theatertreffen, and Georgetown University, he has directed, taught, and facilitated theatre projects across Africa, Europe, the Americas, Asia, and the Middle East, continuing to bridge scholarship, creative practice, and international exchange. Participants in this workshop used physical theatre as a space to reflect on the realities of migration and displacement. They used their bodies, movement, and shared space as tools to explore the journeys of those who leave home, the challenges of transition, and the search for belonging. The workshop took place from 2–4 March 2026 at the Uganda National Theatre.
