The video was the presentation, “Features of Growth Charts for Hong Kong Children”, by Dr Lai Ling Connie HUI, Department of Food Science and Nutrition, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, at the Briefing Session: The New Local Growth Charts of Hong Kong Children on May 31, 2024. Hong Kong Growth Study 2020 provides 3 sets of growth charts, (1) HK 2020 Growth References, (2) WHO 2006 Growth Standards (World Health Organisation Child Growth Standards) and (3) WHO-HK 2020 Growth References. Dr Connie Hui highlighted the features of the HK 2020 Growth References which is new growth charts for children from birth to 18 years of age. The new charts show 9 centile lines (0.4th, 2nd, 9th, 25th, 50th, 75th, 91th, 98th and 99.6th centile lines). The extreme centiles help to indicate potential growth abnormalities and referrals. Dr Hui highlighted that while new BMI data for 0 - 2 years are used in the new chart, the BMI-for-age charts at 2 -18 years were “frozen” and constructed based on Hong Kong 1993 BMI charts. This is done to avoid normalizing childhood obesity. A higher BMI centile is used to classify overweight and obesity for children under 5 year compared to 5 years and older. This is to reflect that obesity is less common among young children. The weight-for-age charts for 2 to 18 years were derived from contemporary height (Hong Kong 2020) and the historical BMI of Hong Kong 1993. All the charts and the data tables can be downloaded on the webpage of the Hong Kong Growth Study. https://www.cuhk.edu.hk/proj/hkgrowth... ===== More Information: FHS Website: http://s.fhs.gov.hk/trkxe Parenting Made Easy!: http://ecourse.familyhealthservice.go...
