Latter-day Saint temple garments are the subject of a new book. The authors surveyed thousands of Church members for their project. Nancy Ross, Jessica Finnigan and Larissa Kanno Kindred heard from more than 4,500 people, both women and men, who talked about their experiences wearing garments. It’s not just a religious practice; it’s also something that affects the wearer’s life on a daily basis. Garments, say the authors, shape Mormon ideas about identity, obedience and the body. They’re joining us to talk about how garments work, where they come from, and what it means to wear them. Their book is called “Mormon Garments: Sacred and Secret.” GUESTS – Nancy Ross | Associate professor and department chair of the Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences Department at Utah Tech University. Jessica Finnigan | Independent scholar of religion in contemporary society. She holds a Master of Arts from King’s College London and an Advanced Diploma from the University of Cambridge. Larissa Kanno Kindred | Doctoral student in counseling psychology at Tennessee State University. She also works as a clinical therapist specializing in mental healthcare for neurodiverse individuals. #radiowest #kuer #publicradio #podcast #mormon #lds #latterdaysaint #latterdaysaints #history #religion #religioushistory
