In Part 5 of our verse-by-verse study through the Book of Revelation, we enter the dramatic turning point of chapter 5 — the moment of cosmic suspense and ultimate resolution in heaven’s throne room. John sees a scroll in the right hand of the One seated on the throne — sealed with seven seals, representing the complete, hidden plan of God for the culmination of history, judgment, and redemption. A mighty angel proclaims: “Who is worthy to open the scroll and break its seals?” No one in heaven, on earth, or under the earth is found worthy. John weeps bitterly — because if the scroll remains sealed, God’s final purpose cannot be fulfilled. Then one of the elders points to the solution: “Behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has conquered, so that he can open the scroll and its seven seals.” John looks — and instead of a lion, he sees a Lamb standing as though it had been slain, with seven horns (perfect power) and seven eyes (perfect knowledge and the seven spirits of God sent into all the earth). The Lamb takes the scroll — and the four living creatures, the twenty-four elders, and myriads of angels fall down in worship, singing a new song: “Worthy are you… for you were slain, and by your blood you ransomed people for God from every tribe and language and people and nation.” The praise explodes outward, encompassing every creature in heaven, on earth, under the earth, and in the sea — all declaring the worthiness of the Lamb and the One on the throne. This chapter reveals the heart of Revelation: only the crucified and risen Jesus — the slain Lamb who conquers — is worthy to execute God’s plan. His sacrifice is the key that unlocks history’s meaning and hope. "Brief Summaries of different aspects of the Roman Catholic Church and her histories. I hope you enjoy and learn a little."
